1) How is the old man important to the story?
2) Will Clara and her mother's relationship grow?
3) Why does her mother refuse to share the history of Clara's father and twin?

I don't understand why clara felt she had to lie about her twin sister dying to the old man. She told him everything else so why she couldn't tell him about that. She said that she thought that if she told the old man about the midwife that it would make a better story. I think it would have been a better story if she would have told about her twin sister. She didn't seem to have any hard feelings that her twin sister died. I know it may sound a little morbid but if I didn't really have a hard time talking about the death of my twin, I would have spilled my guts... Don't you agree?

Well to answer Sweetie, clara is interested in the old man because she doesnt have any close friends that she is comfortable enough talking to. She is advanced in her grammer because she loves to read, and she even said that she read all the books in her library. The old man is important in the story, because it shows a sense of generational differences. Most children are close to their grandparents and I feel that in a sense the old man is something like a grandfather figure.

To answer monica35002 the old man is important because him and clara show generational differences. Many childeren are close to their grandparents and in a sense the old man is like a grandfather figure. I don't belive that Clara and Tamar's relationship will grow anymore than it already has because. the way clara see's her mother won't change unless Tamar changes. I think Tamar refuses to tell Clara abot her father and twin because she doesn't think that it's relevent. She raised Clara without a father or twin sister so why did Clara need to know about them now.

1)y doesn't Clara feel any type of sorrow of the death of he rtwin sister?
2)Do you think that Clara is confiding in the old man so that she can resolve her own internal conflict?
3)Do you think that if Clara had a caring mother, and friends at school that she would have even thought of interviewing the old man?

Observations______________

Clara is yearning for love and adoratin

She say's she keeps her last name all lower cased, because winter is ment to be feared... Maybe she afraid of herself

Tamar neglects and rejects clara so she finds her comfort in reading and in words.
